Design Decoupage Defined

After much brainstorming to come up with a title for this blog, with the knowledge of what I wanted the blog to display, I got stuck on "Design Decoupage". .....Ah, ah...the most fitting name for imparting just what the blog is all about.

de.cou.page / dé·cou·page (noun)

With its French origins the word "decoupage" is defined as the art of applying cut outs from various materials to surfaces to be decorated.

Decouper (verb), to cut out or cut up

The intention of "Design Decoupage" is to share a "decoupage" of design ideas for fabrics, specifically fabric remnants, samples and swatches of various sizes, content, colour, pattern, textures........

I started hand-crafting accessories from Designers Fabric Samples after visiting a well known Designer Flea Market in my home city and purchasing some samples. The fact that I was able to get samples to buy was great, but the question in my mind was, "What happens to the other thousands of Designers Fabric Samples that do not make it to the flea market?"

After a few visits to the Designer Flea Market, I started sourcing Designers Fabric Samples from various sources and find it delightful, rewarding and very "green" utilizing them to hand-craft unique and chic accessories

My mantra is: re-cycle, re-use, re-purpose , reduce

Since I am always on the look out for items that I can recycle,refinish,reuse and repurpose, you will also see projects with furniture and accessories being taken from the "curb to couture".
